     THE PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF WORKING A FATAL FIRE December 7, 2015 @ 1300 to 1600  Edmunds Conference Center – Northern Maine Community College Presque Isle December 8, 2015 @ 9:00 to 12 noon Florian Hall – 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office, in conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), are proud to offer “The Psychological Effects of Working a Fatal Fire ” presented by Special Agent William Visnovske. The purpose of this 3-hour presentation is to provide relevant public safety professionals, and healthcare professionals, who are called to work at fatal fire scenes, the answer to the question, “Why is this fatality a triggering event to what I am dealing with?”  The session will discuss the current research of the psychological effects of working fatal fire scenes and includes a methodology of how to perform your duties while navigating a fatality. Presented by: Special Agent William Visnovske Special Agent William Visnovske is a certified Fire Investigator with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.  In his 25 year career, he has also served as a deputy sheriff, city police officer, state law enforcement officer, and a United States Marine.  Special Agent Visnovske is an International Critical Incident Stress Foundation approved instructor.  He also volunteers as a specialized peer support team member at the On Site Academy in Massachusetts, a residential training and treatment facility for emergency and military personnel struggling with critical incident stress.  He has spent the last five years conducting research with Dr. Jeff Mitchell into the psychological reactions of personnel who are exposed to fatality fire scenes and is coauthor of their book, “Crucial Moments.”   Please RSVP to Joanne Cummings 207-626-3882 or Joanne.Cummings@maine.gov  by 12/01/15 Refreshments will be served There is no charge for this seminar THE PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF WORKING A FATAL FIRE SCENE (3) (PDF)
